Claudia Farias Benjamim

Researcher Claudia Farias Benjamim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ – 1991), a Master’s degree in Biological Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ – 1995), and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of São Paulo/Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (USP-FMRP – 1999).

She is currently an Associate Professor at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics (IBCCF) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She is a “Cientista do Nosso Estado (CNE)” fellow and a PQ-1D researcher.

Claudia has experience in the fields of Inflammation, Immunology, and Pharmacology, with an emphasis on Cellular Immunopharmacology. She specializes in chronic inflammatory diseases, focusing mainly on the following topics: sepsis and immunosuppression, pulmonary fibrosis, hard-to-heal skin lesions in diabetic animals, myositis, and, more recently, immune response dysfunction in COVID-19.

In all research lines within her laboratory, the group focuses on studying inflammatory mediators and cellular responses (particularly dendritic cells and Tregs) as potential therapeutic targets in chronic inflammatory diseases. (Text provided by the author).
