She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (1997), a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from UFRJ (1999), and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from UFRJ, with a visiting researcher stage at Johns Hopkins University (2003).
Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Virology, Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology at UFRJ.
She has expertise in the areas of Virology and Immunology/Inflammation, investigating mechanisms of virus-cell interaction and viral pathogenesis, focusing on vascular endothelium and innate response, especially in infections caused by dengue, Zika, HIV, and SARS-CoV-2 viruses.
