Anderson Guimarães Baptista Costa

He holds a degree in Biological Sciences: Microbiology and Immunology (2009) and a PhD (2014) in Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He completed part of his doctorate (2013-2014) in the laboratory of Dr. Jesus Valenzuela, at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. He completed his postdoctoral studies (2014-2018) at the NIH with scholarships from Science without Borders and the NIH. He was a fellow of the National Postdoctoral Program (PNPD/CAPES – 2018). He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Immunology at the Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology (UFRJ) and works as a collaborating professor in the Postgraduate Program in Immunology and Inflammation (UFRJ). He has experience in Immunology, with an emphasis on innate immunity and immunoparasitology. His main research interests include: interaction between neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells with the Leishmania parasite; effect of insect vector saliva on the modulation of innate immune cell responses during Leishmania infection; neutrophil chemotaxis; neutrophil extracellular networks (NETs).
