Graduated in Medicine from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1988) and earned a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (1992). Completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Human Genetics Molecular Biology Program at the University of Utah (1994-1996).
He served as Head of the Immunopharmacology Laboratory at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (1996-2013) and as Vice Director of Research, Technological Development, and Innovation at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute during the 2013-2017 term. He was also the Coordinator of CEUA-Fiocruz (2004-2006) and the Coordinator of the Examination Committee at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (2013-2018).
Currently, he is a Senior Researcher at the Immunopharmacology Laboratory of IOC/FIOCRUZ and a Full Professor of Medical Pharmacology at UNESA/IDOMED.
He has experience in Immunology and Pharmacology, with an emphasis on Inflammation, working primarily on the following topics: inflammation, cytokines, sepsis, malaria, cognition, and neuroinflammation.
