He holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1995), a Master’s degree in Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000), a Ph.D. in Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2004), and a Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of São Paulo.

He is currently an Associate Professor at UFRJ.

He has experience in the field of Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Glycobiology, primarily working on the following topics:
(i) Biological activity of extracellular vesicles produced by fungi
(ii) Glucosylceramides of pathogenic fungi
(iii) Involvement of glycosphingolipids and lipid domains in fungal adhesion and endocytosis by host cells
(iv) New therapeutic strategies for the prevention and treatment of fungal infections
